Sudo and his friendly assistant Risa face some serious drama during their work together in a clinic, especially where Risa's twin and Sudo's mother are concerned. The Gene of AI has a serious and pensive tone in its various episodic stories, and some stories end with grief, loss, and heartache. It also explores serious questions about human memory, the soul, and the meaning of life as technology takes over the body. This anime series explores transhumanism, or the blending of humanity and machine. The Gene of AI isn't quite a heartbreaking drama, but it does have a strong human heart despite its many sci-fi trappings, like a milder Ghost in the Shell.
